Awards

10.10.2009

The 2009 National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York State Media Award was presented to Ginnah Howard at the organization's Fall Conference in Albany, NY. The following excerpt is from the Conference Program:

NAMI-NYS is proud to present the 2009 Media Award to author Ginnah Howard, for Night Navigation. Night Navigation is a fugue in two alternating voices — a 37 year-old man and his mother — that explores a landscape of suicide, complicated by the co-occurence of mental illness and substance abuse. It portrays a struggle familiar to many NAMI members — providing support without enabling or infantilizing a loved one.
